Biography
Richard Richardson and business partner John Barnes have created an original framework for growing businesses on a low budget, which they call ‘Marketing Judo’.
After long careers with large companies around the world including Procter &Gamble and Young &Rubicam John and Richard came together to turn Harry Ramsden’s from a single Fish and Chip shop in Yorkshire into a highly successful international brand.
After years of working with big budgets they had no money left for marketing at Harry Ramsden’s and fell into a way of thinking which they eventually called ‘Marketing Judo’.
Based on the principles of Judo where skill matters more than size, they show how you can use the weight of your opponent to your advantage and by moving quickly you can take them by surprise and unbalance them!
Since selling Harry Ramsden’s, they have applied their principles to many other companies and seen their restaurant investment La Tasca increase 5 times in value in just 5 years via a stock market listing and recent sale.
Together they have written their best selling business book ‘Marketing Judo’. Packed with amusing stories and events from the wide variety of companies he’s involved in ranging from listed PLCs to Private Equity Companies and Social Enterprises,
Richard demonstrates how it’s always possible to grow your business whatever the size of your budget.
He is a frequent speaker at conferences & events sharing his principles for success.
