BUSINESS YORKSHIRE TO FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY IN BUSINESS

Business Yorkshire, the premier business-to-business exhibition and conference, will feature sustainability as a central theme for 2009. The event, which takes place at Doncaster Racecourse on 25-26 November will for the first time include a Sustainable Hub, an area dedicated to companies offering environmental solutions to other businesses.

The Carbon Trust, is one of the organisations which has already signed up to appear in the Sustainable Hub at Business Yorkshire.

Speaking about launching the Sustainable Hub, Scott Hider, MD of Nationwide Media Group, which organises the annual show said; “Business Yorkshire has grown in successive years and is now firmly established in the regional business calendar. To keep the show fresh, every year we look for ways in which our events can provide more value to exhibitors, visitors and the wider business community. We are confident that the Sustainable Hub will be a successful new addition to the event format. We recognise that SMEs are under increasing pressure to be more sustainable, which is why we are giving the event a strong environmental angle. We are inviting companies who can advise and provide services to businesses looking to exhibit or visit.

“Regardless of whether or not you subscribe to the idea of climate change, the harsh reality of business today is that you need to develop a sustainable strategy to compete. On the one hand we are seeing the emergence of ‘the low carbon consumer’ who is choosing to spend their money with businesses and brands they consider to be sustainable and ethical. On the other hand businesses are being forced to be more sustainable through legislation. Businesses that want to work with the public sector in particular will already be aware that having a strong environmental policy can be the difference between securing work and losing out to other companies.”

The Sustainable Hub complements keynote speakers in the Business Link Innovation Lounge, Business Link Speed Networking sessions, the Angels Den Theatre, the Google University and a programme of ‘How to’ seminars from local business experts.
